HONORABLE MUHAMMAD REZA CASSAM UTEEM
The founder
Hon. Muhammad Reza Cassam Uteem is the Founder of Uteem Chambers and a Barrister-at-Law with more than 25 years of experience in international business law, finance, and taxation.
He was called to the Bar of England & Wales (Middle Temple) in 1993 and to the Mauritian Bar in 1995.
He holds an LLM in International Business Law from King’s College London and an LLB in Politics and Law from the University of Buckingham.
Mr. Uteem has advised governments, multinationals, and financial institutions across Africa, Asia and Europe on cross-border finance, investment, and regulatory matters.
He has acted in civil, commercial, and taxation cases, including anti-money-laundering, fraud, and international arbitration proceedings, and has participated in aircraft financing, fund structuring, and project-finance transactions for major global banks and investors.
Beyond practice, he has contributed to major legislative reforms, including the Financial Services Development Act, the Trusts Act 2001, and the Limited Partnerships Bill.
He has served as Chairman of STEP Mauritius, Executive Committee Member of IFA Mauritius, and Member of the Legal & Regulatory Committee of AVCA.
Since 2024, Mr. Uteem has been serving as Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, after more than a decade as a Member of the National Assembly and the Pan African Parliament.
