About

Shafaa is a Barrister who joined Uteem Chambers in September 2019.

Shafaa obtained a First Class Bachelor of Laws with honors in English and French Law from the University of Central Lancashire in June 2017. She completed her Post Graduate Diploma Bar Professional Training Course at Northumbria University, Newcastle with a “Very Competent”. She was then called to the Bar of England and Wales at the Honorable Society of the Middle Temple in July 2018. Upon completion of her pupillage in Mauritius, she was admitted to practice at the Mauritian Bar as a Barrister at Law in September 2018.

Shafaa did her pupillage at Uteem Chambers under the guidance of the head of Chambers, Me. Muhammad R C Uteem, followed by a pupillage at Legis Consult Law Chambers under the supervision of Me. Bucktowonsing, Senior Attorney and then at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions under the supervision of Me. Moutou-Leckning, former Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, now Judge of the Supreme Court of Mauritius and finally at Sir Hamid Moollan Chambers QC, under the supervision of Yusuf Hassam Aboobaker SC, C.S.K., Silk 2003.

During her pupillage, Shafaa has had the opportunity to draft pleadings and assist in the preparation of Supreme Court cases, namely cases at the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court (Assizes) and Appeal cases.

Shafaa has recently assisted and represented clients in criminal, civil and commercial matters before the Mauritian Courts. She also appears before the courts for road accident cases, bail matters, tax matters and divorce cases.

Shafaa also regularly assists in advising clients in employment and trust matters.
